As a mixed media artist I seek to create resonance with the viewer through the universal and timeless image of the human figure, blending elements of the surrounding landscape for a subtle transformative effect.
The foundation of my work is linocut and monotype on washi (handmade Japanese paper) in conjunction with collage, using my own printed papers. Beginning with a drawing from a live model, the focus is set by iconic poses, suggesting inner reflection and stillness. Through repeated layering of prints and collage elements, depth and texture are created that relate to our natural environment.
As I follow the process and energy of the work, I often allow the figure to dissolve into its surroundings or be invaded by them, referencing the way we are influenced by the landscape we pass through.
